Stakeholders

Broken Hill Proprietaries (BHP) is a world resources company headquartered in Melbourne Australia specializing in minerals, gas, and oil. They are the proponent of this project and as such are responsible for preparing the Environmental Impact Statement in accordance with the requirements stated in the CEAA 2012. As the proponent, they are also required to listen to public concerns and comments and respond accordingly as per the recommendations of the IAA.

Regulatory Stakeholders

Throughout the process, multiple regulatory stakeholders were consulted by BHP, both to confirm specific requirements, as well as process data requests.

Government of Canada:

  • Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEA Agency)

  • Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO)

  • Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) 

  • Canadian Coast Guard 

  • Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) 

  • Department of National Defence (DND) 

  • Transport Canada 

Government of Newfoundland and Labrador:

  • Municipal Affairs and Environment 

  • Fisheries and Land Resources

Indigenous Groups

Throughout the EIS process, BHP engaged with a number of Indigenous groups from various provinces and territories which had the potential to be affected by the project activities.

 

As part of their commitment, BHP invited Indigenous groups to various workshops as well as notifying them of the developments in the EIS. These groups were welcome and encouraged to review and comment on key documents
